Surgical and non-surgical treatments of ankle injuriesThe most common sports injury is the lateral bending of the ankle. In almost every sport like walking, running, football, basketball, climbing or dancing, among others, a twist or overbending can require pausing sports activities for quite some time. It is a severe injury and needs to be diagnosed and treated with care. The injury has specific consequences for the dynamics of the entire body structure.
Stabilisation of the joint with a functional orthosis is the current procedure. A well defined neuromuscular therapy helps to reestablish a good ankle function and body movement. Surgery of the ligaments are rarely necessary. However, chronic symptoms should be evaluated by MRI, since cartilage injuries or chronic instability can lead to long-term consequences. |
